Mission

According to the Italian legislation, Doctoral Studies (PhD) represent the third segment of the university education and, at the University of Padua, they are undertaken in Doctoral Courses.

A Doctoral Course is devoted to research education and PhD students can be enrolled in a Doctoral Course for periods of 3 years.

The Doctoral Course in Veterinary Science assists PhD students in the accomplishment of their projects, allowing them to reach their goals and develop their scientific competitiveness. In the Doctoral Course in Veterinary Science candidates may be from a Veterinary Medicine, Science/Biotechnology or Agricultural-Animal Science backgrounds depending on the nature of the research project to be undertaken. Some clinically based projects are only appropriate for veterinary graduates.

The main goal is to stimulate the PhD student to pursue an independent supervised research through a problem-solving approach. Candidates must develop the ability to undertake systematic studies and relate their studies to the general body of knowledge in the subject. This approach will train the PhD candidates to adapt to professional requirements different from those considered as specific for the research in the veterinary fields. Candidates are expected to meet regularly with their supervisors and they are assisted to participate in relevant national or international conferences.

Coordinator of the Course is Professor Mattia Cecchinato
