EDUCATION - XXXVII cycle

The PhD educational program involves both compulsory (C) and eligible (E) activities including short courses, seminars, lectures and practical activities.

For the PhD Course in Veterinary Science it is mandatory to attend the compulsory activities corresponding to 14 ECTS. Students are expected, and activities are directed to increase:

  • skill in scientific English
  • the ability to deal with database searching
  • skills for experiment planning and statistical analysis
  • the knowledge about research ethics and bioethics
  • acquisition of generic/transferable skills
  • the ability to disseminate scientific knowledge

The doctoral course in Veterinary Science offers the following teaching activities, most of which are provided during the first two years; some of these activities are in collaboration with the other doctoral courses resident in the Agripolis Campus.

Compulsory activities for Vet Science PhD Students (first year: the students must attend 4 courses to be chosen from those lister below and the course "Health and Safety work"; second year: the students must attend the 4 courses not attendend during the first year):

  • A. Biostatistic and Clinical epidemiology (2 ECTS)
  • A. Basic data Analysis with R for Veterinary Science (1 ECTS)
  • A. Evidence based veterinary medicine (0.5 ECTS)
  • A. Ethics in scientific reasearch (2 ECTS)
  • B. Dissemination of science: contents and tools (1.5 ECTS)

  • S. The impact of ANVUR on teaching and research activities (0.5 ECTS)
  • S. Acorrent medical approach to the use of laboratory animals. Choice of species, specific characteristics and animal welfare (0.5 ECTS)
