Brief descrition of the P.h.D project:
The PhD project focuses on the evaluation of the Oxygen Reserve Index (ORi) as a non-invasive tool for monitoring oxygenation in anesthetized dogs. ORi, based on multi-wavelength pulse CO-oximetry, provides an estimate of mild hyperoxemia and allows earlier detection of oxygen desaturation compared to traditional peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO₂) monitoring. The project includes clinical studies assessing the correlation between ORi and PaO₂, the influence of body condition and peripheral perfusion on ORi accuracy, and the potential of the ORi/FiO₂ ratio to detect intrapulmonary shunts. The findings aim to support the integration of ORi in veterinary anesthesia and critical care monitoring.
