Brief description of the P.h.D. project:

My PhD theme traits the “Evaluation of reproductive response to environmental challenges on animal species of veterinary interest”. Our focus is to evaluate how the semen quality changes in species like bulls, buffaloes and stallions based on the effect of certain physiological parameters and seasonality. During my two years of doctoral program, we evaluated the physiological parameters of fresh and cryopreserved semen of the Italian Mediterranean buffalo (IMB) by cytofluorimetry. Additionally, we evaluated the effect of seasonality on thawed semen from Belgian Blue bulls. Flow cytometry was used to assess intracellular ROS production, mitochondrial functionality, and membrane integrity. Furthermore, we analyzed the proteomic profile and oxidative stress parameters of the seminal plasma from these Belgian Blue bulls. The aim for the near future is to analyze both behavior and semen quality parameters on the breeding and not breeding season of the IMB. Lastly, during my period abroad for a project in the Laboratory of Equine Reproduction and Equine Spermatology of the Clinical Veterinary Hospital (HCV) of Extremadura University (UEx) in Càceres we evaluated the glucose metabolism of stallion spermatozoa before and after capacitation with different medium.
