Aura Cencini

Education:

I studied aerospace and telecommunication engineering, but I'm interested in nanotechnologies.

Research areas:

Nanotechnologies

Brief description of the P.h.D. project:

My PhD project regards the development of nanotechnologies for the agrifood and the biomedical sectors.
I mainly focused on hybrid DNA-RNA triplex structures, whose role in cells is still unclear. I worked in characterizing triplexes forming sequences present in the genome of E. coli, and in investigating the role of these structures in the context of gene regulation. I am currently working also on their application as possible molecular logic gates.
I have also researched the properties of DNA based nanotechnologies for sensing applications, especially for biomedical purposes.
Another part of my PhD project is relative to iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles, which have a wide range of applications, from water purification and the synthesis of novel materials to drug delivery and biological functions modulation.
